Ladyjacks Strong at ITA Regionals

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team finished 3-3 overall at the ITA Regional Championships in Waco, Texas.
Junior Alina Shazhko easily defeated Wanda Bequilin of Texas-Pan American, 6-0, 6-1 and proceeded to win her second match over Texas-Arlington's Linda Aquist, 6-4, 6-3. Shazhko was set to take on Texas A&M's Nazari Urbina in the round of 32, however was unable to compete due to an injury.
Sophomore Alice Pacaut won her first round match over Sam Houston State's Natalie Petaia 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, but would fall short to Texas Tech's Samantha Adams 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. Sophomore Paola Montuenga lost in a close match to the Red Raiders Lorina Avelis, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while teammate Ksenia Berestetska fell to Texas Tech's Carolina Starck 6-3, 6-2.
The Ladyjacks will be competing in their final tournament of the fall season on November 5th at the Cougar Fall Draw Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.
