NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The National Tenpins Coaches Association released its first national bowling poll of the season over the weekend, and Stephen F. Austin is just outside the top 20.
"It's always good to see your name among all those nationally ranked programs," SFA head coach Laura Cramer said. "But we want to consistently be one of those top 20, top 15 teams. That's what we're working toward here."
The Ladyjacks are coming off a season-opening match against Sam Houston State that was streamed live on the United States Bowling Congress website. SFA lost two standard-format games -- the second by a narrow margin -- before picking up a win against the Bearkats in Baker format.
Following that performance, SFA finds itself just behind Sam Houston in the initial NTCA poll of the year. The rival programs are the first two teams listed in the "Also receiving points" section of the poll.
The Ladyjacks will continue their season this weekend when they take part in the Greater Ozark Invitational. The three-day tournament in Springfield, Mo., begins Friday.
