Ladyjacks wrap up Apache Invitational

TYLER, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team continued their impressive start to the fall season when they competed in the Apache Invitational hosted by Tyler Junior College this weekend.
Junior Alina Shazkho won four straight singles matches in two days to sweep the A draw. She defeated Louisiana Tech's Elne Barnart in the finals 6-1, 7-6 (4). Freshman Ksenia Berestetska reached the finals of the B draw for the second time this season, but fell short to Northwestern State's Rubesova, 6-3, 6-3 in the finals. Sophomore Paola Montuenga took the consolation A draw, defeating Anna Zurek of Louisiana Tech, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
"We had another solid performance in Tyler and the team continues to improve from tournament to tournament," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "It has been encouraging to see such strong results against many of the same teams we will be playing this spring, and we look to continue our strong results at our regional this weekend in Waco. We will go up against 7 nationally ranked teams, which will be a higher level of competition than we have seen so far this fall, and we are looking forward to the chance to test ourselves against some of the best teams in the country."
The Ladyjacks will be back in action on October 22 to compete in the ITA Regional Championships in Waco, Texas.
