NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team will open its second season of competition Sunday, when SFA takes on Sam Houston State in a pair of dual matches. The showdown is set to be held at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, and will be streamed live via the United States Bowling Congress website.
"This is a great way to start the season," SFA coach Laura Cramer said. "It's good to see other programs in the Southland Conference get in on the college bowling movement, and it's exciting for us to get the chance to compete against our natural rival."
Sam Houston's bowling program is in its first year of competition. The Bearkats announced two years ago their plans to add bowling to the lineup and hired coach Brad Hagen in the spring of 2009.
Cramer's squad is coming off a debut campaign that saw the Ladyjacks enjoy their fair share of success. SFA picked up several wins over nationally ranked programs last season and even earned votes in the NTCA Top 20 poll. The Ladyjacks return five letterwinners from that effort to go along with seven new signees for the 2010-11 season.
Sunday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from the International Training and Research Center. The teams will square off in two standard format dual matches, then roll and exhibition best-of-seven game in Baker format.
