NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Despite earning third-team AP All-America honors, and being a 2009 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Preseason All-American, senior defensive end Tim Knicky is considered one of the most underrated players in the country according to CDS. Knicky has been named to the 2009 CDS Second-Team All-Underappreciated Team. He is one of only two Southland Conference athletes named to the team.
The CDS All-Underappreciated team consists of players from the NCAA Division I level, as well as the non-division I level. These teams recognize athletes who exhibit great future potential, but haven't received a great amount of national publicity.
One of the most dominant defensive linemen in the Southland Conference, Knicky finished fifth in the country, and tops in the SLC with 12 sacks. He also led the league, and finished ninth in the nation with 20 tackles for a loss. The heart-and-soul of the Lumberjacks' defensive effort, Knicky ended the season with 74 total tackles, including 40 solo stops. He was also credited with four pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Knicky earned honorable mention all-conference honors after his freshman and sophomore seasons. He entered the 2008 campaign as a preseason second-team all-conference selection before earning first-team honors at the end of the year. He will enter his senior season with 164 career tackles, 44 tackles for losses and 20 sacks in 28 career starts.
