HOLLISTER, Mo. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team continued to struggle in the final round of the weather-shortened Branson Creek Invitational. The Lumberjacks recorded a 315 Tuesday afternoon, seven strokes off Monday's pace, but were able to finish in a two-way tie for fifth (Nebraska), 308-315 - 623. The 54-hole tournament was shortened to 36 holes at the par 71, 7,036-yard Branson Creek Golf Course due to cold, windy conditions in the area.
The Lumberjacks were unable to record a round lower than 78, and were forced to accept three 79s in the final round. Senior Chad Spencer recorded the team-low 78 to finish tied for 17th overall with a 154. Spencer tied sophomore Michael Smith who shot a 75-79 in the two rounds.
Sophomore Kyle Robbins finished the day with an eight-over par, 79, and finished the tournament tied for 20th overall (155). Freshman Stetson McMillan recorded an identical 79, but finished seven strokes back of Robbins due to a slow opening round of play Monday. McMillan placed 51st overall. Sophomore Matt Oates finished the tournament tied for 60th after shooting an 81-88 - 169.
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday, April 13, when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the ASU Red Wolves Classic. The classic will be hosted by Arkansas State.
