
SFA Golf Falls to Sixth in Final Round

KERRVILLE, Texas - Less than 24 hours after recording the second-lowest round of the day, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team stumbled to a 19-over par 307 in the final round of the 2009 Southland Conference Championships. SFA finished sixth overall, one stroke behind Texas State. Lamar won the team title by shooting a three-round score of 859.
Sophomore Michael Smith led the team Wednesday posting a two-over 74. He finished 10th overall with a three-over par 219. Smith was the lone Lumberjack to place among the field's overall top 10.
Senior Chad Spencer entered the day in the hunt for the individual title after shooting a tournament-low 67 Tuesday morning, but he struggled in his final collegiate round. Spencer shot a nine-over 81, which dropped him out of the top 10. He finished the tournament tied for 14th overall with 73-67-81 - 221.
Sophomore Kyle Robbins recorded his best round of the tournament with a three-over 75, to finish tied for 33rd overall. Robbins finished with a three-day score of 77-78-75 - 230. Along with Robbins, freshman Stetson McMillan also carded a 14-over 230 to finish tied for 33rd. Junior Josh Irving shot an 83 Wednesday to finish the tournament with a 24-over par 240. Irving finished tied for 48 overall.
