'Jacks Slip to Ninth at ASU Red Wolves Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot a six-over par 294 Tuesday afternoon, but slipped to ninth in the final standings of the ASU Red Wolves Classic. The Lumberjacks showed vast improvement in the final round cutting 10 strokes off their second-round score, but unfortunately for SFA the rest of the field posted some of their lowest rounds of the tournament on Tuesday. SFA finished the tournament ninth overall with a three-round score of 293-304-294 - 891. Louisiana-Lafayette carded an 867 to take home the team title from the 6,566-yard, par-72 Ridge Pointe Country Club golf course.
Sophomore Michael Smith shot a two-under par 70 to finish tied for fourth overall (213). It was the second time in the tournament he was able to shoot below par.
Freshman Stetson McMillan struggled in the final round, but still managed to record the team's second-lowest score. McMillan shot a 226 to finish tied for 38th overall. Senior Chad Spencer finished tied for 55th overall after shooting a 74-77-78 - 229. Junior Josh Irving was the 'Jacks' fourth-place finisher. He shot a one-under 71, to finish 62nd overall (231). Freshman Jordan Wynn finished two strokes back of Irving with an 80-78-75 - 233. Wynn was tied for 64th overall.
The Lumberjacks will take two weeks off before traveling to San Antonio, Texas for 2009 Southland Conference Championships. The SLC Championship will begin Monday, April 27, and will run through Wednesday, April 29th.
