CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Stephen F. Austin left 13 runners on base Sunday in a 7-0 loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The defeat gives the Islanders a 2-1 series win over SFA.
With the loss, the Ladyjacks move to 18-16 on the season with an 8-4 record in Southland Conference play.
The Islanders (13-23, 4-10) had just one more hit than SFA in the game, but the Ladyjacks left runners stranded in all seven innings, including a bases-loaded situation in the top of the second.
A&M-Corpus had just one baserunner through the first three innings, but broke through with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Islanders added to their lead with four runs on three hits -- one of which was a two-run homer -- and a Ladyjack error in the fifth inning.
Monika Covington (12-8) took the loss after giving up five earned runs on seven hits. She didn't issue a walk and recorded nine strikeouts.
Junior Briana Bishop went 2-for-3 with a double to lead SFA at the plate. Kendal Harper, Kim Daley, Ashley Struchtemeyer and Kari Hugie each hit safely once.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action Wednesday when they host Louisiana Tech in a 6 p.m. contest.
