DENTON, Texas - The Ladyjack tennis team never could get going on Saturday as North Texas picked up a 7-0 win at the Waranch Tennis Complex, dropping SFA to 1-2 on the young season.
The Mean Green did not allow SFA to pick up a single set in any singles action, and also swept through each of the doubles matches to earn that point. The North Texas duo of Madura Ranganathan and Irina Paraschiv came into the match ranked No. 8 in the region, while Paraschiv came in ranked No. 14 in the region individually and Ranganathan ranked No. 16.
They are the first regionally-ranked players SFA has faced so far this season.
That pair picked up an 8-0 win over the previously unbeaten duo of Roxana Enica and Alina Shazkho, while Gabriela Gadeva and Tatiana Smolnikova were the only duo to claim a game against the Mean Green, still falling 8-2 to Narine Kazarova and Catalina Cruz.
Enica also fell in No. 1 singles play (6-1, 6-2) to Paraschiv, while Shazkho nearly stretched out her match before falling to Paula Dinuta in straight sets (6-2, 7-5).
SFA is next in action on Monday when they host Louisiana-Monroe at 2 p.m. at the Schlief Tennis Complex in Nacogdoches.
