NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack bowling team is quickly gaining recognition in its first season, and is already receiving votes in the NTCA top-20 poll.
SFA was just on the outside of the NTCA top 20 in the national poll, coming in as the fifth team receiving votes in the latest poll published Dec. 3. The Ladyjacks have picked up head-to-head wins this season over six teams ranked in the top 20 in the latest poll, including No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Arkansas State and defending national champion and No. 6 overall Nebraska.
"It certainly is nice to see other coaches around the country taking notice of what our team has been able to accomplish up to this point in just our first season," head coach Laura Cramer said. "For a team made up completely of freshmen to compete the way that they have so far, and to already be knocking on the doorstep of the top 20 says a lot about them. Now it will be interesting to see how we play now that we know that other programs are starting to take notice."
SFA will get the chance to move up in the rankings this weekend when it travels to Jackson, Miss., for the Capital City Classic hosted by Jackson State. The Ladyjacks will be joined by 11 other teams, including four teams in the top 20 and two more that were receiving votes in the latest poll.
It will be SFA's final competition until January 15 in Little Rock, Ark. The Ladyjacks also have three more tournaments on the schedule before they host their own tournament at Texas Pro Bowl, the Piney Woods Classic, scheduled for Feb. 6-7.
