NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Four different Lumberjacks reached double figures Saturday as the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks rolled to an 82-54 win over Huston-Tillotson in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lumberjacks (2-2) shot a season-best 58.5 percent from the field while holding Huston-Tillotson to 34 percent and outrebounding the visitors, 46-22.
Junior Eddie Williams scored 15 points to lead the `Jacks for the fourth straight game. Williams was 6-of-7 from the field and added three rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
Jordan Glynn joined Williams in double digits with 10 points and just missed his first double-double of the season with a career-high nine rebounds. Freshman center Will Reinke came off the bench for nine boards and scored 11 points - both career highs - and junior forward Orren Tims finished with 14 points and five boards.
SFA's largest lead of the first half was just 13, and the Rams cut the advantage to single digits early in the second half. But the `Jacks went on a 14-2 run between the 18:39 and 12-minute mark to open their lead to 53-32. Williams scored six of his nine second-half points during that stretch, all on drives to the basket.
SFA widened the gap to 27 points (64-37) with 8:09 to play, and Huston-Tillotson was only able to get within 20 points twice down the stretch, coming no closer than 19 on either occasion.
SFA finished with a 52-24 advantage in the paint and outscored the Rams, 16-5, in fast-break buckets.
Sophomore center Jereal Scott scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds. Senior guard Walt Harris finished with seven points and grabbed a season-high three boards, tying his career best. Junior swing man Mark Gomillia came off the bench for six points on 3-of-3 shooting.
Senior point guard Eric Bell and junior guards Austin Falke and Lionell Holmes chipped in with a 3-pointer each, and senior forward Aaron Smith knocked down a pair of free throws to round out the scoring.
James Black came off the bench to lead Huston-Tillotson with 13 points. Rex Kyles added 12, and the only Rams starter to reach double figures was Darrell Glover, who finished with 10 points. Leading scorer Davetom Odom, who came into Saturday's contest averaging 20 points, was held to five points on 2-of-16 shooting.
The Lumberjacks are scheduled to return to action Tuesday with a road game against Jackson State. The contest is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
