'Jacks Tied for Ninth at Louisiana Tech

CHOUDRANT, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team fired an opening-day 589 to finishe ninth after 36 holes at the LA Tech Squire Creek Classic in Choudrant, La. The 'Jacks recorded two of their best rounds of the season shooting a 294 in the opening round, followed by a 295 to finish with a 13-over 589 at the par 72, Squire Creek Country Club.
Freshman Austin Green led the Lumberjacks with a three-under par, 141. He is currently fifth overall, only three strokes off the leader. Senior Matt Oates shot an even par in the opening round, and closed out the day with a two-over 74 in the final 18 holes of the day. Oates is currently tied for 22nd overall (146).
After contending for the individual title last week, junior Kyle Robbins got out to a little bit slower start Monday. Robbins began the day with a two-over 74, and finished with a five-over 77 (151). Robbins is currently tied for 50th overall. Classmate Michael Smith is one stroke back of Robbins with a 76-76 - 152. He is tied for 57th overall, along with freshman Mitchell McLeroy who recorded identical rounds.
The Lumberjacks return to the course Tuesday morning for the final round of action.
