BOSSIER CITY, La. - The Ladyjack bowling team pushed their way into a roll-off for the championship of the season-opening Bossier City Shootout on Sunday afternoon, but a late wave of strikes from Louisiana Tech was too much for SFA to overcome as the Ladyjacks walked away from its first-ever tournament with a runner-up finish.
Each team finished 3-1 on Saturday and did the same on Sunday, forcing the one-game roll-off. It seemed as though the Ladyjacks were going to get out of town with a win before Louisiana Tech's anchor bowler rattled off three consecutive strikes in the final frame to force a 178-178 tie and a second Baker game tiebreaker.
In the second tiebreaker Louisiana Tech caught fire midway through the game, knocking down all 10 pins on their final seven rolls for a 238-183 win for the title.
"I'm very proud of the girls for the way that they competed today," Cramer said following the match. "I thought the girls got a good taste of what this level of competition is going to be like and will really gain some confidence from the way we performed this weekend."
In the first match of the day the Ladyjacks nearly pulled off a comeback win over the Lady Techsters, trailing 3-1 before taking games five and six to knot the match at 3-3; however, the Lady Techsters then pulled off their highest score of the match and used six straight strikes to distance themselves in the 244-177 win.
SFA then went the distance and came back from a being a game away from losing before disposing of Alabama State, 4-3. One match later the Ladyjacks decided to get done a little quicker, sweeping Prairie View A&M and posting its highest Baker game score of the season with a very solid 242 in the second game.
Cramer's bunch then had a battle on its hands in its final head-to-head of the day versus Grambling, the only team on Saturday who managed to defeat the Ladyjacks . SFA managed to take each of the first three games to move to within one game of the win before the Tigers squeaked out a 171-170 win to extend the match. Grambling then took each of the next two to knot it up before SFA let loose its highest score of the match for a 201-157 win.
Sierra Gibbons and Dustie Hammond were also named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.
SFA now heads to Springfield, Mo., on Friday for the three-day Greater Ozark Invitational.
