NACOGDOCHES, Texas - It has been a year in the making, but the SFA bowling team will make its competitive debut on Saturday when Laura Cramer's bunch opens up its first-ever season with its first-ever tournament - the Bossier City Shootout.
"We are very excited to get this season going," Cramer said. "The girls have been working extremely hard in practice and are anxious to get out there and get going for real."
The five-team tournament is set for the Holiday Lanes in Bossier City, La., with play beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The Ladyjacks will be joined by teams from Grambling, Prairie View A&M and Alabama State and Louisiana Tech - a team with five returners from a team last season that had upsets of both No. 3 Nebraska and No. 5 Arkansas State. Each team will open play with four team games on Saturday, followed by Sunday's Baker game format.
"It has been a lot of work for everyone on our team and the entire athletics department to get this team on the ground and running," Cramer said. "It is definitely a big day for our team and I feel like this field is a great way for our young team to get its feet wet before we go to a very competitive tournament one week later in Missouri."
Cramer has pieced together an all-freshman squad in the program's initial season with eight players making up the roster, all from Texas.
