HOUSTON - Knicky is a two-time honorable mention All-SLC selection who took over a starting role during his freshman season and has never looked back. Knicky provided an intimidating presence on the 'Jacks' defensive front in 2007. He finished the year among the league leaders in sacks (4.0) and tackles for losses (15.0), and was fourth on the team with 60 tackles.
Although left off the postseason honors lists after his rookie season, Williams made a name for himself as one of the more versatile athletes in the country. Projected as the 'Jacks' future at linebacker, Williams was pressed into a starting role when injuries took their toll on the SFA roster. Due to injuries on the offensive side of the ball, Williams finished the season as a starter at linebacker and running back. He finished fifth on the team with 58 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for losses, and was third on the squad with 46 carries for 230 yards rushing.
The conference also released its coaches' and sports information directors' preseason poll Tuesday. The Lumberjacks have been picked to finish eighth in both polls. McNeese State has been selected to repeat as league champion. The Cowboys received seven first-place votes, and 49 total points in both polls.
