
SFA Golf Finishes Eighth at SLC Championships

LAKE CHARLES, La. - For Immediate Release April 16, 2008 Freshman Kyle Robbins paced the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shooting a four-over par, 220, Wednesday afternoon in the final round of the Southland Conference Championships at the Grays Plantation Golf Course in Lake Charles, La.
Despite strong performances in the second and third rounds, SFA was stung by a slow opening round and finished eighth overall as a team (313-294-302 - 909). Lamar won the overall team title shooting a two-over, 866.
Robbins finished tied for sixth overall. Classmate Jacob Taylor and sophomore Ricky Wilkenfeld rallied on the final day to finish tied for 35th overall with a 15-over, 231. Taylor shot a tournament-low 73 Wednesday afternoon, while Wilkenfeld closed with a 76.
Freshman Michael Smith struggled in the final round posting a 10-over, 82. He finished tied for 39th overall with an 18-over, 234. Sophomore Matt Oates finished two strokes back of Smith with a 20-over par, 236. Oates finished tied for 43rd overall.
