BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lumberjack baseball team took the lead in the top of the first inning, but Lamar quickly responded and kept the `Jacks at bay for a 9-1 win on Thursday in the opener of a three-game series.
Lamar (12-7, 3-1) scored six runs in the first four innings and starter Brian Sisk struck out six in six innings for his fourth win of the season, while SFA (9-9, 1-3) starter Erich Lehmann allowed six earned runs in nearly seven innings to record his second loss of the year.
The one run is the least amount of run production for the `Jacks this season, and the five hits ties the season low for hits. It was the first time this season SFA was held without an extra-base hit.
SFA's only run came in the first inning when the `Jacks put together three consecutive singles with two outs to grab a 1-0 lead when Jeffrey Kello drove home Kevin Crabtree. Unfortunately, Sisk combined with two other Cardinal pitchers to not allow another `Jack to advance past second base the rest of the way.
The series continues on Friday with a 6:30 pm start. Kevin Thomas is scheduled to throw for SFA. The game can be heard on KSFA 860AM, or at www.ksfa860.com with the pregame show starting at 6:15 pm.
