NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack equestrian team closed out the home portion of this year's season on Saturday, picking up a win against riders from both Ohio State and Miami (OH) at the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Center.
Kristin Landes had another stellar ride again in equitation over fences, scoring 80 points in a decisive 80-25 win over Sloane Schottenheimer. Kelly Loerwald and Emily Frost also scored wins in equitation over fences, giving the Ladyjacks a 3-1 lead after the first frame of competition.
SFA increased its lead after the second half of the hunt seat competition, edging the Ohio schools 3-2 in equitation on the flat. Randi Spencer once again put up the highest score for the Ladyjacks, an 85-point ride, but was only good for half of a point as Laurie Muellner matched her 85-point effort with one of her own. Loerwald had an 81-point ride in equitation on the flat, notching a two-point win over Schottenheimer.
Kayla Krambeck picked up MVP of the western horsemanship portion of the show, picking up 70.5 points on her ride in her win over Kayla Feltz. SFA took three of the five head-to-head matchups in western horsemanship after Lydia Roof and Kyra Cruse also picked up wins of their own.
The reining part of the show went the way of those from the Buckeye State, as the Ohio schools took four of the five available points. Kyra Cruse was the only Ladyjack to score, as she took a 66-63.5 win over Megan Ritchey.
The Laydjacks will finish off the regular season on March 8 when they head to Auburn, Ala., to take on Auburn.
