NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack equestrian team snapped a three-show losing streak on Friday, knocking off Tennessee-Martin 11-8 at the Walter C. Todd agricultural center.
The Skyhawks actually led 8-4 after the hunt seat portion of the competition, but SFA swept all eight points in western riding to overtake them and notch the win.
Kristin Landes continue to impress this season, earning MVP honoors for SFA in equitation over fences with a convincing 85-67 win over Phebe Brennan. Randi Spencer also picked up show MVP in equitation on the flat, in a high-scoring head-to-head matchup that went SFA's way with an 87-84 decision.
Then came the western portion, where no Ladyjack won by any less than 2.5 points and the Skyhawks registered no score on two of their riders. Kayla Krambeck, Felicia Shartle, Kyra Cruse and Jenny Martin teamed up to complete the sweep in western horsemanship. Shartle had the most convincing margin of victory in the rides, taking a 72.5-64 win over Elaine Shaw. Jenny Martin also left no doubt in her ride, winning 73.5-65.5 over Kendra Leake in taking MVP honors herself.
In reining, Kyra Cruse and Lydia Roof each took easy wins after their Skyhawk counterparts registered no score; however, Martin picked up her second MVP of the day with a 69.5-62 win and Kayle Bernal notched a 59-56.5 win to complete the sweep on the reining side as well.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action again on Saturday, facing a pair of foes from the Buckeye State. Ohio State and Miami (OH) will both be in competition against SFA beginning at 10:00 a.m. from the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Center.
