MONROE, La. - The Ladyjack tennis team dropped its only match of the week on Saturday, falling 6-1 at Louisiana-Monroe.
Gabriela Gadeva and Tanya Smolnikova did their best to try and salvage the doubles point, picking up an 8-6 win over the Satge/Arrondo combination for the Warhawks (4-4); however, ULM took care of the other match-ups 8-1 and 8-2 to go ahead 1-0 heading into singles competition.
The Ladyjacks (4-6) registered their only point of the afternoon in No. 2 singles when Sanjana Kapur took a 6-2, 1-0 lead before notching the point via retirement by ULM's Lena Satge. Unfortunately, though, the Warhawks took care of business in the other five singles matches to secure the win. Gadeva was the only other Ladyjack to claim a set victory in singles play, taking the first set from Giovanna Arrondo before eventually surrendering 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
SFA will open up conference action on Friday when it hosts Lamar on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The Ladyjacks will also be involved in a meet-and-greet in conjunction with the Lumberjack golf team at Farechild's Restraunt on Tuesday, Feb. 26th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for a $10 price and can be purchased at the door or in advance by contacting the SFA athletic department.
