SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team is ninth after the first day of competition at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational. The 'Jacks shot a 301-297 to finish with a 30-over 598.
SFA was led by freshmen Michael Smith and Jacob Taylor who recorded an opening day six-over par 148 to finish tied for 25th. Smith recorded a two round score of 76-72, while Smith shot a two-over 73, followed by a four-over par 75.
Freshman Kyle Robbins opened the day with a 79, but rallied in the second round to record a two-over 73. Robbins finished the day with a 10-over par 152, and is currently tied for 51st overall. Sophomore Matthew Oates struggled in the opening round with an 83, but recovered in the second round with a six-over par 77. He is now tied for 75th overall. Freshman Justin Weant is tied for 81st entering Tuesday's final round. Weant shot a two-over par 73 to open the invitational, but struggled in the second round recording an 88.
The Lumberjacks close out the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational Tuesday with the final round of action.
