
Long Named FCS ADA Academic All-Star

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Stephen F. Austin senior kicker Cory Long has been named to the 11th Annual FCS Athletics Director's Association Academic All-Star team announced association officials Friday morning. It marks the second time in his career that Long has received the honor. He was one of 43 athletes named to the 2008 team.
Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate studies and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
A semifinalist for the 2008 Draddy Award, Long wrapped up his best season in a Lumberjack uniform in 2008. Long finished ninth in the Southland Conference in scoring, averaging 6.5 points per game. He finished the year with a career-high 78 points after connecting on a league-best 51-of-51 PATs, and 9-of-13 (.692) field goal attempts. His mark of 69.2 percent on field goal attempts was among the league's top six.
Long leaves SFA as one of the school's all-time leading scorers. He graduates third on the school's all-time scoring list with 232 career points.
