NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After a cold and rainy weekend that forced Friday's match to be postponed, the weather was much more receptive than a much improved North Texas team as SFA fell 7-0 to the Mean Green at the Schleif Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Ladyjacks (0-1) had been scheduled to open up its spring season on Friday against North Texas, but rain and temperatures below 40 degrees hampered playing conditions and forced the postponement until Sunday.
North Texas took all three sets in doubles play to earn the point, with Ladyjacks Roxana Enica and true freshman Christelle Kuempfer falling just short, 9-8, against the tandem of Rachel Wilhelm and Catalina Cruz. Other doubles action saw Gabriela Gadeva and Tanya Smolnikova fall 8-6 to the duo of Franca and Kazarova, while Sanjana Kapur and Mary Harrison fell 8-4 to Ranganatha and Joubert.
Singles play did not fare well either as the Mean Green took each of the six singles points.
Kapur put up the best showing of any Ladyjack, fallng 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 singles to Narine Kazarova who won four matches at last fall's ITA Regional. Enica dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Madura Ranganathan in No. 1 play.
SFA will be at home again this weekend as it takes on UTPA and Centenary on Friday and Louisiana Tech on Sunday, with each match at the Schleif Tennis Complex.
