NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team will open up play this weekend when it travels to Denton for the Mean Green Invitational.
Play is set to start at 9:00 a.m. from the Waranch Tennis Complex near the North Texas campus, with similar start times on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to SFA and the host school, players will convene from Sam Houston, Texas-Arlington, SMU, Texas Tech, Army, Abilene Christian and Tyler Junior College.
The Ladyjacks will be familiar with several of the opponents over the weekend as Sam Houston, Texas-Arlington, Tyler Junior College and Abilene Christian were all on last year's schedule.
Experience will be key this year as head coach Bret Arrant enters his 11th season looking to get SFA back on track after a 2006-07 season that proved to be a learning experience. SFA will field a more seasoned team this year despite having only one senior on the roster in Nicole Schoenauer. Juniors Gabriela Gadeva and Mary Harrison are two-year letterwinners, and sophomore Roxana Enica is back for her second season as a Ladyjack. Last season Enica led the team in singles wins as only a freshman, with most of her wins coming from the No. 1 slot.
Contributions will also be looked for from sophomores Tatiana Smolnikova and Rijalda Zejnic, in addition to freshmen Andreea Enica and Sanjana Kapur.
