NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team bolstered its lineup with the addition of two high school standouts announced head coach Trey Schroeder Tuesday morning. Michael Smith (Cedar Park, Texas) and Kyle Robbins (Southlake, Texas) have announced their intentions to further their education at SFA next season.
Smith is ranked 18th among the 2007 class of junior boys in the state of Texas, and has recorded seven tournament victories in the past two seasons. A two-time district champion, Smith has earned all-region honors twice in his career, and has been an all-district selection every year at Vista Ridge High School.
"Michael is a terrific addition to our team," said Schroeder. "He is a very talented golfer and a dedicated student. Michael has won numerous tournaments over the last two years and we are looking forward to his winning experience. His confidence and determination is exactly what we need on an already young team. I have known Michael and his family for a few years and I am very excited that he is part of our program."
Robbins comes to Nacogdoches from Southlake, after earning all-district honors at Fort Worth Christian School for the past three seasons. A three-time all-region selection, Robbins earned all-state honors during his sophomore year, and missed the honor by only a stroke the following season. He has produced some staggering numbers during the 2006-07 season either winning, or finishing tied for first at three tournaments. "Kyle is a great sign for our program," said Schroeder. "He is extremely hard working and wants to win. He has produced great scores over his four-year high school career and knows how to lead a team. I am excited about the goals that Kyle wants to accomplish here at SFA and the depth that he will bring to this team."
