SAN MARCOS - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks suffered a 13-3 eight-inning loss Friday evening against Texas State. The Bobcats had a 10-3 lead going into the bottom of the eighth and added three more runs to run-rule the game. The Lumberjacks fell to 25-22 overall and to 12-10 in Southland Conference action. Texas State is now 16-6 in league play with a 31-16 overall record.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, David Wood hit a solo shot over the center field wall to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead. Texas State struck again in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to extend its lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, Kevin Crabtree hit a bases-loaded single through the left side to score Steven Hill from third base to cut the lead to three at 4-1. But the Bobcats scored three more runs through the next two innings to distance themselves even further, 7-1.
The Lumberjacks put together a short rally in the top of the sixth starting with Jared Pitts' lead off double down the left field line. With one out, Jeremy Arterburn walked and the pair got in scoring position on a Bobcats' passed ball. Jeff Brewer then drove in both base runners on a double to right center to cut the lead to 7-3.
Texas State, however, added six more runs in the final two innings of the game as the Bobcats took a 13-3 eight-inning win from SFA.
Justin Fiske earned his seventh win of the season for the Bobcats, as Lumberjack starter David Miller suffered his second loss of the season for a 1-2 overall record. Miller gave up four runs off four hits in just 2.2 innings of work.
Smith and Pitts were the only Lumberjacks to collect more than one hit, both going 2-for-3. Pitts also added a run.
