
SFA Tennis Swept by Southeastern La.

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team was swept by Southeastern Louisiana Friday afternoon, 7-0, and was down 3-2 versus Nicholls State Saturday morning, but play was suspended due to inclement weather. The Ladyjacks are 5-11 overall and 2-6 in Southland Conference play.
On Friday, the Ladyjacks faced No. 72 Southeastern Louisiana. The Lady Lions were on a 12-match win streak heading into Friday's showdown and No. 1 singles player, Emilija Arnaudovska was ranked 108th in the nation. Southeastern La. started off by sweeping the doubles point with scores of 8-3, 8-1 and 8-1.
In singles play, Roxana Enica defeated Arnaudovska 6-3 in the first set, but Arnaudovska took a 6-1 win in the second set and a 2-1 win the tie breaker after Enica retired. The Lady Lions won all singles matches to take a 7-0 win.
The Ladyjacks tried to redeem themselves Saturday against Nicholls State. Having won the doubles point with 8-5 wins from both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams, Laura Harrison took the No. 2 singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sarah Hanecsh. Nicholls State took points from Gabriela Gadeva, Lauren Nowicki and Tatiana Smolnikova to take the 3-2 lead.
Play was then suspended with the No. 1 and No. 6 matches in their third sets. Enica had defeated Celine Stenger, 6-2, in the first set, but fell, 6-1 in the second set. Enica was up 1-0 in the third set when play was suspended. Mary Harrison was defeated 7-6 in the first set against Nicole September, but won the second set, 6-2. The duo was to begin its third set when action was stopped because of snow and wet courts.
There was no final result in the Nicholls State match and plans for a make up date have not been announced.
The Ladyjacks will conclude their 2007 season next Saturday in Huntsville against Sam Houston State.
