
'Jacks Improve by 12 Strokes but Remain 7th

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team came out Tuesday afternoon and shot 12 strokes better than its opening-round score, posting a 303, but remain seventh heading into Wednesday's final round of competition at the Southland Conference Championships. Unfortunately, SFA improved its score on a day in which all but one other league team, Texas-San Antonio, improved upon its opening round. Lamar continues to lead the field shooting a second round 268 to move 24-under-par.
Freshman Ricky Wilkenfeld currently leads SFA after shooting a two-over par 74 in Tuesday's second round. He is currently tied for 24th overall with a 153. Junior Chad Spencer leads a trio of Lumberjacks that are only two strokes back of Wilkenfeld. Spencer improved by five strokes from Monday's score to post a 75. He is currently tied for 31st overall. Spencer is tied with teammates Josh Irving and Matt Oates who have shot identical rounds posting a 78-77 - 155. Senior James Winkley shot an 81 in the second round and is currently 44th overall with two-day 161.
The Lumberjacks will close out the 2007 SLC Championships Wednesday. The final round of the conference championships with take place at the Comanche Trace Golf Course.
