
SFA Tennis Falls in Season Finale

LUFKIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks wrapped up their 2007 spring season Tuesday afternoon against Lamar at the Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin. The Cardinals took a 6-1 win over the Ladyjacks to send SFA's overall record to 5-14 and its Southland Conference mark to 2-9. The match was scheduled for earlier this month in Beaumont, but was postponed due to rain.
Lamar swept the No. 1-5 singles matches. Kaltrina Harbuzi defeated SFA's No. 1 Roxana Enica, 6-1, 6-2. In No. 2 play, Laura Harrison was defeated by Maria Gutierrez, 6-2, 6-3. Pamela Martinez took a 6-1, 6-4 win from Gabriela Gadeva in No. 3 singles. Lauren Nowicki fell to Manijee Ashrafi, 6-1, 6-4 in No. 4 singles and Manami Kuroda defeated Mary Harrison, 6-3, 6-1. Ladyjack Tatiana Smolnikova took a No. 6 victory by default to give SFA the point.
In doubles play, Lamar took the doubles point when it won the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.
For the year, Enica finished with a 9-9 overall record and a 5-5 SLC mark in No. 1 singles. Enica and doubles partner Laura Harrison finished the year with a 10-10 No. 1 doubles record.
