WACO, Texas - Jared Pitts' two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning tied the score at two, but Baylor's seven-run eighth inning put the game out of reach and the Bears took a 10-2 win. Stephen F. Austin's third straight loss sends its record to 2-7 on the year and the Bears now sit with a 4-3 overall mark.
After SFA starter Lance Luetge kept the Bears at bay with four hitless innings, BU scored two in the fifth. In the `Jacks sixth, Noel Trevino hit a double to right center field and scored when Pitts sent his third home run of the season over the left field wall.
In the game, Trevino and Chris Smith had four of SFA's six hits. Trevino, the second baseman, was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Smith was also 2-of-4.
On the mound, Luetge pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two hits and three runs. Only one run was earned. He struck out nine, a career high, in the outing. His ERA now sits at 1.98.
SFA will open its 2007 home slate Tuesday afternoon against Centenary. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start from Jaycees Field.
