SFA Golf Adds Stetson McMillan

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team signed Lindale High School standout Stetson McMillan to a national letter of intent announced head coach Trey Schroeder Monday afternoon.
"I am very excited that Stetson is joining our program," said Schroeder. "I have spent a lot of time looking for that one golfer who can come in here and help this team right away, and I believe Stetson is that player. He is a very talented and goal oriented young player who can help take us to the next level. Stetson knows how to win and his résumé speaks for itself. I am very impressed with how knowledgeable Stetson is with the game of golf."
McMillan has performed at a high level for Lindale High School since his sophomore season. He finished third in state and was the district champion in 2006, and followed that up with a district runner-up finish the following season. He has recorded six tournament wins, and has recorded a 71.8 stroke average during his prep career.
A Hideaway, Texas, native, McMillan is ranked among the state's top 20 according to the Golfweek rankings. In 2006, McMillan was a member of the Texas Junior Golf Tour All-Tour team, and has been on the TJGT Red River Texas Team for two consecutive seasons.
McMillan has recorded success on the regional and national level, along with his accomplishments at the state level. He has logged 30 top-15 finishes in statewide events, and 12 top-10 finishes at regional and national events to go along with two Texas Legend Tour wins.
McMillan is also a standout in the classroom as well. He is a member of the AB honor roll and the National Society of High School Scholars.
"Many players who start college don't understand how important course management, short game, and the mental game are at this level and Stetson understands it extremely well," said Schroeder. "My goal as a coach is not only to win championships and to develop young players, but to also make sure that all of them leave here with a college education that they feel good about. Stetson has shown me that he is dedicated to working hard in the classroom as well as on the course."
