
'Jacks Finish 11th at OU Intercollegiate

EDMOND, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team was unable to gain any ground on the field finishing 11th overall Tuesday afternoon at the OU Intercollegiate in Edmond, Okla. The 'Jacks shot 330 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 975. SMU defeated Texas Tech in a sudden death playoff to record the team title in the 11-team field at Oak Tree Golf Club.
Freshman Michael Smith improved one spot on the final day to record the Lumberjacks' lowest three-round score. Smith shot a final-round 77, to finish tied for 27th overall with a 232.
After recording three-over par 74 in the second round, sophomore Matthew Oates reflected the team's struggles on the final day. Oates recorded the team's second lowest round of the tournament, but finished tied for 54th overall with an 87-74-84 - 245.
Freshman Kyle Robbins finished seven strokes back of Oates, to place tied for 57th overall. Classmate Justin Weant shot an 83-84-88 - 255 to place 60th. Sophomore Richard Wilkenfeld was 63rd overall after shooting a 95-78-86 - 259.
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday, Oct. 29, when they travel to Kerrville, Texas to compete in the Comanche Trace Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by UTSA.
