EDMOND, Okla. - Less than a week after completing the SFA Bill Hill - Crown Classic, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team traveled to Edmond, Okla., to compete in the OU Intercollegiate at the Oak Tree Golf Club. SFA struggled on the opening day, shooting a 45-over par 329 to place 11th heading into Monday's action.
Freshman Michael Smith was the Lumberjacks' bright spot shooting a four-over 75 to finish in a three-way tie for fifth. Smith is only six strokes off the lead, with Texas Tech's Will Griffin (69, -2) being the only golfer to finish the round under par.
Classmate Justin Weant recorded the second-lowest round for the 'Jacks, shooting a 12-over 83 to finish tied for 53rd. Freshman Kyle Robbins is only one stroke off Weant's pace after the first 18 holes.
Sophomore Matthew Oates shot a 16-over par 87 Sunday and is currently 61st overall. Classmate Richard Wilkenfeld shot a 24-over par 95, which places him 63rd heading into Monday's round.
