
SFA Golfers Third at Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team is currently third after shooting a first-day score of 296-305 - 601 Monday afternoon at the Moe O'Brien Intercollegiate. SFA played two rounds on the opening day and will finish with the final round Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Chad Spencer is currently tied for second after shooting a 70-71, to finish the day with a three-under par 141. Spencer is currently three strokes back of individual leader Sigmundur Masson from McNeese State.
Rookie Matthew Oates joined Spencer in the field's top 10. Oates shot a two-over par 74 in both rounds to end the day with a 148. His score was good enough place him in a five-way tie for fourth heading into to Tuesday's final round of competition. Classmate Richard Wilkenfeld shot a 76-79 - 155 to finish the first day in a tie for 20th. Senior Ryan Salinas finished the first day tied for 25th overall. Salinas shot a four-over 76 in the opening round, but struggled in the second round with a nine-over par 81. Senior James Winkley's first day of competition was similar to Salinas' round. Winkley shot an opening-round 77, but struggled in the second round shooting an 82. Winkley heads into to Tuesday's final round of action 33rd overall with a 159.
The Lumberjacks return to the action Tuesday for the final round of action in the Moe O'Brien Intercollegiate at Gray Plantation. SFA enters the final day of action 20 strokes back of tournament host McNeese State, but only three strokes back of New Orleans.
