'Jacks Finish 16th in Season Opener

PINEHURST, N.C. - The youthful Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot a third-round 305 to finish 16th overall at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Greensboro Tuesday afternoon. Wisconsin won the tournament shooting a two-day score of 847.
Junior Chad Spencer led SFA shooting a 75-73-76 -- 224 to finish tied for 55th overall. Redshirt freshman Matthew Oates was only one-stroke off Spencer's pace shooting four-over par Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 225. Oates' score placed him tied for 59th overall. Sophomore Josh Irving and freshman Richard Wilkenfeld both recorded a six-over par 78 to finish the tournament tied for 64th with a 227. Senior James Winkley recorded the Lumberjacks' best round of the day with a three-over par 75. Winkley finished tied for 75th with his three-round score of 230.
The Lumberjacks return to action Sunday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Lake Charles, La., to compete in the Moe O'Brien Invitational.
