HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team recorded its first series-sweep of the season by taking all three games against Sam Houston State. The 'Jacks wrapped up the sweep with a 6-2 victory over SHSU Saturday afternoon in Huntsville. Freshman Erich Lehmann went the distance to record his third straight complete game.
The Bearkats jumped out to a two-run lead in the third inning, but SHSU starter Zach Golden ran into some trouble in the fourth. SFA scored five runs on four hits to take a 5-2 lead. Third baseman Kevin Croft delivered the knock out punch with his three-run home run that cleared the left field fence. It was Croft's second home run in as many days, as he finished the game 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. SFA tacked on another run in the fifth inning and then left the rest up to Lehmann.
Lehmann continued to make a push for Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors as he scattered nine hits over nine innings and surrendered only two runs on the day, while striking out six Bearkats. He finishes the season with an 8-3 overall record.
Croft was one of three 'Jacks to record two hits on the afternoon. Junior Steven Hill went 2-for-5 with a couple of runs scored, while classmate Kyle Freeman was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior David Jeans and freshman Ryan Sinclair added the other two Lumberjack hits.
