SHREVEPORT, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team wrapped up the first day of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate in sixth place, Tuesday in Shreveport. The tournament, hosted by Centenary College, has a 13-team field. SFA shot a 291 in the opening round and 295 in Round 2 to finish the first day two strokes back of fifth-place McNeese State and 13 strokes behind tournament leader Birmingham Southern.
Senior Brian Grossman wrapped up Day 1 tied for ninth place in the individual standings. He shot a two-under 70 in the first round and a 75 in Round 2. Classmate Jason Landry shot a 74 and even-par 72 to end the opening day tied for 15th place. One stroke back, junior James Winkley is tied for 17th, after shooting 73 and 74. Freshman Josh Irving carded back-to-back 74s to earn a tie for 22nd, and senior Josh Price ended the first day tied for 53rd, after turning in rounds of 77 and 81.
The Lumberjacks will continue play in the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate Tuesday morning with the third and final round.
