
SFA Golfers Seventh After Day One at SLC Championships

KINGWOOD, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot an opening day 301 Monday afternoon and is currently seventh after the first day of competition at the 2006 Southland Conference Championships. The Lumberjacks are currently 14 strokes back of the overall leader Texas-Arlington.
SFA is led by senior Brian Grossman who is currently in the hunt for the individual title. Grossman shot a first-round 37-32--69, to finish only two strokes back of the leader heading into Tuesday's competition. Classmate Jason Landry turned in the 'Jacks' second best round with a five-over-par 77. He is currently tied with teammate Josh Irving for 30th overall. Junior James Winkley is only one-stroke back of Landry and Irving with a day one score of 40-38 - 78. Winkley is currently tied for 36th overall. Redshirt freshman Johnathan Porter shot a first-round 85 to finish the day 50th overall.
The Lumberjacks will return to the Kingwood Deerwood Golf Course Tuesday at 8 a.m. for the second round of the SLC Championships.
