MONROE, La. - Catcher Kim Daley was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored, but it wasn't enough as the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team lost to Louisiana-Monroe, 7-3, Saturday afternoon. ULM swept the three-game series and dropped the Ladyjacks to 15-25 on the season and 5-13 in Southland Conference play.
The Ladyjacks got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, when Jessica Tullos singled in Carrie Woydziak from third with two outs to give SFA the first lead of the game. ULM rallied right back in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
ULM held a 2-1 advantage until the fourth inning when the Ladyjacks responded with a two-run inning. Benet Higgs was at third with two outs, when Daley smashed her third home run of the season to give SFA a 3-2 lead.
But just like the first inning, Louisiana-Monroe rallied in the bottom of the inning to take the lead right back. The Lady Indians struck for four runs in the home half of the fourth and added one more in the fifth to close out the scoring.
The Ladyjacks' Kari Hugie pitched 5.0 innings and surrendered seven runs on 10 hits, while striking out five batters. Woydziak finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
The Ladyjacks return home Wednesday to host North Texas in a non-conference doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is slated to get underway at 3 p.m.
