NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Twelve teams will tee off Monday morning in hopes of winning the 2006 Crown Classic, hosted by Stephen F. Austin. The field for this year's tournament includes four Southland Conference opponents and competition from as far away as Illinois. The tournament is held annually at Lufkin's Crown Colony Country Club, a course that is consistently ranked among the best in Texas.
SLC schools Texas State, Nicholls State, McNeese State and Sam Houston State will compete, as will golfers from nearby Centenary College and the Texas A&M JV squad. Other teams include Oral Roberts, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, Missouri-Kansas City and Texas-Pan American.
The Lumberjacks captured the team championship at last year's Crown Classic. SFA recorded the low score in all three rounds to take the title.
Play is set to begin Monday at 8:30 a.m., with 36 holes scheduled for the tournament's opening day. The final round will be held Tuesday.
