
Ladyjacks Top ULM in Overtime

MONROE, La. - Senior forward LaToya Mills scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and freshman guard Anitria Mosley hit some crucial shots down the stretch to lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team to a 65-62 win in overtime at Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday night. The win kept the Ladyjacks (19-7, 13-2) in a tie with Texas-Arlington for first place in the Southland Conference standings.
Mosley hit a jumper with 37 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 54 and send the game to overtime. In the extra period, Louisiana-Monroe took advantage of a missed layup and a turnover on SFA's first two possessions and took a four-point lead (58-54). Mills cut the lead back to two with a pair of free throws at the 3:14 mark. Nikki Carr recorded a steal on the Lady Indians' ensuing possession, and Mosley hit a jumper at the other end to tie the score at 58. Following a missed 3-point attempt by ULM, Mosley knocked down a pair of foul shots with 2:13 left to put the Ladyjacks in the lead for good.
Mills hit a jump shot on SFA's next possession to make it a four-point game, and the Ladyjacks knocked down three foul shots in the game's closing minutes to ensure the win. Mills went 10-of-18 from the field to lead all scorers. Mosley connected on 4-of-9 shots and finished with 11 points, two blocks and two steals.
The Ladyjacks trailed Louisiana-Monroe, 27-21, at halftime after shooting just 22.6 percent in the first half. But SFA went on a 13-5 run in the middle of the second half to take its first lead of the game (46-45) on a pair of free throws by senior forward Kendria Smith. The scoring was back and forth down the stretch with three lead changes and six ties in the final four minutes.
SFA shot 41.9 percent in the second half to finish game at 33.3. Louisiana-Monroe shot 24 percent after halftime and 25 percent in overtime to finish at 28.6 percent from the field. The Lady Indians (17-10, 9-7) were led by Melanie Williams' 16 points and 14 points from LaJeanna Howard.
The Ladyjacks will wrap up the regular season Friday when they host Sam Houston State. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
