STILLWATER, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack equestrian team finished in the Top 4 in consecutive IHSA western shows at Oklahoma State over the weekend. Highlights from the weekend included Sunday's third-place team finish in a field of eight and Lindsey Gaston qualifying for regional competition with her performance on Saturday.
Gaston finished sixth in Novice Horsemanship, Section A on Saturday. The performance moved her out of the novice division and into the advanced division, and also gave her enough points to qualify for the IHSA Regional Championships. The regional show is set for March 26 at Texas A&M.
As a team, the Ladyjacks scored 12 points and tied with North Central Texas College for fourth place in Saturday's show. SFA finished behind regional heavyweights Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. Southern Nazarene finished in third place, just two points ahead of SFA.
Jamie Melgares turned in SFA's lone Top 3 finish on Saturday, taking third place in Open Horsemanship, Section B. Jenny Martin gave a solid performance in two disciplines. She finished fourth in Reining, Section A and took fifth in Section C of Open Horsemanship. Ginny Jackson took fifth place in Intermediate Horsemanship, and Kayla Krambeck finished sixth in Advanced Horsemanship.
On Sunday, the Ladyjacks recorded four Top 3 finishes and took third place with 17 points. Oklahoma State and Texas A&M again finished at the front of the pack.
