
Baylor Edges Ladyjack Equestrian Team

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack equestrian team fell in a close show against Baylor Saturday. The Bears edged SFA, 1,057.5-1,013.5 in the Ladyjacks' third NCAA varsity format show of the 2005-06 season. Baylor captured the win in all four disciplines, but by narrow margins.
The Bears won equitation over fences, 239-228, despite a strong showing from the Ladyjacks. Alex Fincher scored 80 points in the event, the second-best score turned in. Alex Berry added a ride of 76 points, and Rebecca Harrison received a score of 72.
In reining, Baylor recorded its narrowest victory of the day. The Bears scored a 204.5-200 victory, barely nipping the Ladyjacks. SFA's strongest ride was turned in by Jamie Melgares, who scored 71.5 points. Jenny Martin recorded 66 points, Monika Brindley posted 62.5 points, and Lindsey Gaston's ride was scored at 61 points.
The Bears recorded a 292-284.5 win in western horsemanship. Brindley led the Ladyjacks with a score of 72.5 points. Kayla Krambeck was next with a 72, and Martin rode to a score of 71.5 points. Melgares' ride was scored as a 68.5, Amy Hilfer earned 67 points, and Gaston turned in a score of 65.5.
Catherine Brennan turned in the best ride of the day with her high-point score of 87 in equitation on the flat. Baylor took the discipline by a count of 322-301. Fincher chased Brennan with a score of 86 points. Kristine Rice turned in a 67, and Berry's ride was scored as a 61.
The Ladyjacks' next competition will be a pair of hunt seat shows at Texas A&M on Feb. 18 and 19.
