THIBODAUX, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will look to move back over the .500 mark in Southland Conference play when it faces Nicholls State Saturday in Thibodaux, La. The 'Jacks (2-7/2-2 SLC) will take on a Colonel football team that is 4-5 overall and tied with SFA for third in the league standings at 2-2.
The Lumberjacks own a 16-6 all-time record against the Colonels, a record which includes the 'Jacks 27-21 overtime win in Nacogdoches last season. That loss was the only conference blemish on the Colonels' 2005 record as they went on to a share of the league title. SFA has seen its fair share of success against the Colonels in Thibodaux. The 'Jacks are 6-4 all-time against the Colonels on the road.
The game is vital for both teams as they try and fight their way back in the hunt for the conference title. The 'Jacks are currently on the outside looking in, trailing McNeese State and Sam Houston State by only a game.
The Lumberjack defense is coming off one of its best performances of the season holding Sam Houston State running back D.D. Terry to only 32 yards on 15 carries. Terry came into the game averaging close to 130 yards per contest.
The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Guidry Stadium.
