
Ladyjacks Win Exhibition

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks got a team-high 19 points from sophomore Natashia Green to defeat Texas A&M-Commerce, 78-76, in overtime Wednesday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The game marks the Ladyjacks lone exhibition contest before they start the regular season Friday night at Tulane.
Green was one of many bright spots for Lee Ann Riley's troops. The Ladyjacks pulled down 56 rebounds in the contest, led by 11 from seniors Charity Egenti and Evelyn Edwards. Egenti also poured in 17 points to finish the night with a double-double.
Sophomore point guard Anitria Mosley picked up where she left off last season scoring 12 points and dishing out four assists. Mosley also made her presence felt on the glass grabbing eight rebounds. Freshman Martina Holloway played strong in her first career start scoring seven points and dishing out a team-high nine assists. Classmate Whitney Cormier added eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.
The Ladyjacks struggled early in the contest as Texas A&M-Commerce built a 10-point advantage with 6:12 remaining in the first half. But the Ladyjacks responded, going on an 11-0 run to take back the lead with 3:34 remaining in the half.
The Ladyjacks held the advantage, and even pushed it to 14 points in the second half before the Lions got hot from beyond the arc. Konani Marshal sparked a rally with 20 points and eight rebounds as the Lions battled back to regain a one-point lead, 66-65, with 1:37 remaining. The Lions knocked down 11-of-21 from beyond the arc as they battled back to send the game into overtime.
The Lions Britney Jordan added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the visitors, but it wasn't enough as SFA outscored the Lions, 7-5, in the extra period for the victory.
The Ladyjacks will open the regular season Friday at Tulane. The game against the Green Wave is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Fogelman Arena.
