NACOGDOCHES, Texas - For the second straight game, senior center Antuane Miller came off the bench to lead all scorers. This time, though, his team got the win. Miller scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting to lead the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks to an 85-52 win over Texas College Tuesday night in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The win improved SFA to 3-3 and keeps the Lumberjacks undefeated at home this season.
Miller was the picture of efficiency Tuesday night, scoring his 19 points in just 18 minutes of court time. He worked the ball inside against Texas College, and, when he wasn't dropping in layups, earned trips to the free throw line, where he was 5-of-7 for the game. Miller also pulled down six rebounds, good enough for second on the team. His strong performance comes on the heels of a 21-point effort in Saturday's 85-56 loss at Missouri.
Three Lumberjacks joined Miller in double figures. Sophomore forward Josh Alexander hit 3-of-6 3-pointers to finish with 15 points. Sophomore center Matt Kingsley and senior guard Chaz Dykes added 10 points apiece. Kingsley added six rebounds.
Mike Dale scored 18 points to lead the Steers, and Jameus Hartsfield grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Lumberjacks shot 56.7 percent in the first half to take a 41-27 lead to halftime. SFA got even better in the second half, hitting 58.1 percent of its shots to finish the game at 57.4 percent. The Lumberjacks held the Steers to 37 percent shooting.
A game after recording a season-high 27 turnovers at Missouri, the Lumberjacks took great care of the ball against Texas College. SFA committed just six turnovers Tuesday, while forcing 15 by the Steers.
Miller wasn't the only SFA reserve to make an impact. Every SFA player save one posted double-digit minutes, and the Lumberjack bench outscored Texas College's bench, 47-3. Sophomore point guard Shelby Lewis came off the bench to post a team-best four assists. Junior forward Trevor Guy led the team with seven rebounds.
SFA's next game is Friday, Dec. 1, at Southern. The game against the Jaguars is scheduled to tip at 5 p.m. from Baton Rouge, La.
