FRISCO, Texas - Preseason All-America safety, Keldrick Holman, was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon. It marks the first time this season that Holman has received the honor, and the third time this year that a Lumberjack has been honored.
Holman led the Lumberjacks to a 24-13 victory at Texas State Saturday with his team-high 11-tackle (seven solo tackles) performance, including one for lost yards. Holman helped thwart a Texas State drive late in the first half with an interception that he returned 50 yards. Holman then stepped up to make a huge play on special team. Following a Danny Southall touchdown to give SFA its first lead of the game, Holman forced a Texas State fumble on the ensuing kickoff, which was recovered by the Lumberjacks. Holman was also credited with a pass break up in the game as well. He is currently second on the team with 52 tackles.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday, Oct. 21 to host preseason favorite McNeese State. The game against the Cowboys is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
