SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team saw its six-game winning streak and undefeated Southland Conference record go by the wayside Saturday in a 66-48 loss to Texas-San Antonio. The Ladyjacks fell to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in conference action with the defeat. The Lady Roadrunners improved to 9-7 on the year and 4-1 in league play.
SFA fell behind early, as the Ladyjacks could not keep pace with Texas-San Antonio's hot shooting. SFA hit 37.5 percent of its shots in the first half, while the Roadrunners knocked down 51.9 percent to take a 34-21 halftime lead. The Ladyjacks' shooting woes continued in the second half as their average fell to 30 percent. SFA finished the game at 34 percent.
The Ladyjacks also committed 21 turnovers, which UTSA turned into 22 points. SFA's poor shooting, combined with the high number of turnovers, kept the game out of reach. The Roadrunners led by as many as 27 points late in the second half.
SFA's lone double-digit scorer was senior forward LaToya Mills. She scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting and grabbed a team-leading 11 rebounds. Nicole Dunson scored 12 points to lead UTSA. She was joined in double figures by Katie Sandefur (11) and Terrie Davis (10).
The Ladyjacks will return to action with another road game Thursday, when they take on Texas-Arlington. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Texas Hall.
