NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- A four run fourth inning propelled the SFA Ladyjacks (9-16, 3-9) to a 5-2 win over the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners (20-12, 4-2) and made the Ladyjacks winners of five of their last six games Sunday afternoon. With the win, SFA takes the series from UTSA two games to one.
Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, SFA's Carrie Woydziak doubled to left center to open the frame and the Ladyjacks added another base runner when Lee Lara was hit by a pitch. Woydziak was forced out at third base on a fielder's choice by Tara Hersey. Ragen Rutherford then popped to short for the second out before Kristina Swart drew a base on balls to load the bases.
Nicole Carter then hit a roller to short which was bobbled for an error by UTSA's Ashley Long which allowed a run to score and all the runners to advance. Julie Morse then drew another walk off Amanda Nikolenko (9-7) to tie the score 2-2. Jessica Tullos then picked up a single to left center to drive in two more runs and give SFA a 4-2 lead.
The two run edge was all Nicole Carter (3-5) would need as she pitched four and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief of starter Julie Morse to pick up the win. Carter scattered three hits and struck out three in picking up her second win of the series, both in relief.
Nikolenko worked 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on three hits while striking out one. Ursula Mares came on in relief and went two and one-third innings and gave up one run on three hits.
The Ladyjacks added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning then the frame opened with a leadoff walk to Kristina Swart. She moved to second on a sacrifice before stealing third. She scored on a single by Crystal Dahlquist to wrap up the scoring.
SFA has now won five of its last six games and hosts McNeese State in a Southland Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Coy Sims Softball Complex. ™
